Washington DC Tree Wells

Location: Washington DC

Project Description: An expansive installation including dozens of Rubberway® tree wells, sidewalk sections, pathways, and bus stops using the Rubberway EVOLUTION system.

The first phase of the project has been completed and consists of a series of custom Rubberway tree wells in a highly visible and highly trafficked area. These large tree wells were designed to remove trip hazards for pedestrians getting off buses to visit the museums which receive 27 million visitors per year. Additional Rubberway tree wells will be installed on surrounding blocks as well.

The new Rubberway EVOLUTION system was selected for this project and was custom designed to match the surrounding stone sidewalks. Rubberway's rubber tree wells are flexible and porous, allowing for rapid rainwater dispersion and reducing trip hazards otherwise associated with lifted sidewalks or tree grates from root heave.
